Biography: Chris Edenfield
Chris Edenfield is transitioning from almost five years active duty in the United States Army to the Georgia Army National Guard and civilian life. His military schooling included Military Intelligence, Airborne, Air Assault, languages, and other essential Combat Soldier skills. These skills served him well on multiple assignments in the Middle East and a year long tour of duty in Iraq.
As a Tactical Intelligence Officer holding the rank of Captain in the United States Army, he was tasked to know the enemy, the culture, local and national governments, infrastructure and environment of Iraq particularly in battle situations. His team’s efforts resulted in the discovery of 45 enemy weapons caches, the destruction of over 14,000 pieces of enemy weaponry, and the capture of 75 high value targets. He participated in many combat missions providing commanders on-site threat predictive analysis, enemy situational awareness, and course of action recommendations. Chris Edenfield has a very real knowledge of the military and Iraq.
Before his military experience, Chris Edenfield completed his education in the Savannah Chatham County Public School System. His high school diploma was earned at H.V. Jenkins High School. He then worked full time while attending university classes. In December of 2000, he graduated from Armstrong Atlantic State University.
The benefits of public education, a working-class heritage, plus his military service, combine to shape Chris’ return to civilian life as an entrepreneur, contributor to the business community, and as candidate for political office.
Chris Edenfield’s previous publishing venture James Journal (where he served as “Founding Editor-in-Chief”) was just another example of that entrepreneurial spirit, can-do attitude, and keen sense of adventure. These integral parts of Chris Edenfield’s personality and style give him a true understanding of the day-to-day lives and challenges facing the citizens and business owners in the 12th District.
To Chris family is everything. A loving father and husband Chris has been married to Cheryl Edenfield for ten years and they have a three year old son, Colin. They have returned to live in Chatham County, Georgia. This brings Chris back to the place he was born on October 8, 1973, to parents Romie and MaryAnn Edenfield. Chris is the youngest of four children; he has two older brothers and one sister. The Edenfield family roots run deep in Georgia. The log cabin where Chris’ great grandmother was born still stands to this day in Johnson County. A long history of public service is found in the Edenfield family dating as far back as the 1600’s and colonial days.
As an articulate, thoughtful, educated and often witty man, Chris Edenfield cares deeply about Georgia, his community, his country and the diverse cultures that make up the 12th District, his home. He has insight and a message to share. He believes strongly that he can and will be able to bring change where needed in government and community for the benefit of all.
